Scanner & Multifunction Guide
Troubleshoot scanning separately from printing and verify hardware, connection, permissions, and software.
Separate scanning from printing
A multifunction printer can print correctly while scanning fails because scanning uses different software, permissions, services, network discovery, and source settings.
- Confirm the scanner or document feeder is physically ready and the document is positioned correctly.
- Try a scan initiated from the printer control panel if supported.
- Check the computer’s scanning application can see the correct device.
- Verify camera/scanner or local-network permissions where the operating system requires them.
- Test flatbed and document feeder separately if both are available.
Practical note: A successful copy made directly at the printer indicates the scanner hardware can capture an image, even if computer scanning still needs software or connection troubleshooting.
Network scanning
Network scanning can fail after a router change, IP-address change, firewall change, or software update even when printing still works.
- Confirm the computer and printer are on the same network.
- Refresh or re-add the scanner in the official scanning application if needed.
- Use the manufacturer’s official network or scan utility only when the built-in operating-system scanner does not provide the required function.
Practical note: Do not disable security software broadly just to make scanning work; use documented application/network permissions instead.
Brand-specific steps may differ. Use the manual and official manufacturer support resources for your exact printer model. Do not install unknown remote-access tools or disclose passwords, verification codes, or payment information.
