Printing from a phone or tablet
Mobile printing usually works when the phone/tablet and printer can communicate on the same local network or when the printer supports a documented direct-print method. The exact feature name varies by platform and printer.
- Connect the mobile device to the intended Wi-Fi network.
- Confirm the printer is connected to the same compatible network.
- Open a document or photo and look for the operating system’s Print command.
- Select the correct printer, paper size, orientation, and number of copies.
- Use the manufacturer’s official app only when built-in printing does not expose the function you need.
Practical note: Guest Wi-Fi and some mesh or business networks isolate devices from one another, which can prevent discovery even when both show internet access.
Direct or hotspot printing
Some printers create their own temporary wireless network or support Wi-Fi Direct. When using this mode, your phone may temporarily lose ordinary internet access because it is connected directly to the printer.
- Follow the printer’s documented direct-wireless steps.
- Return the phone to the normal Wi-Fi network when finished if necessary.
Practical note: Never enter home Wi-Fi credentials into an unknown website claiming it must 'activate' printer setup.
