Use the official source

For model-specific printer drivers, scanning packages, firmware, and utilities, begin at the printer manufacturer’s official support website. Search by the exact model number and operating-system version.

Modern operating systems may provide basic printing without a full manufacturer package. Install extra software only when you need functions such as scanning, maintenance, fax, advanced color settings, or fleet/device management.

Identify the exact printer model.
Check your operating-system version and architecture where relevant.
Download only from the manufacturer’s official domain or your operating system’s trusted update mechanism.
Close unrelated installers and verify the file name and publisher before installation.
Restart only when the installer or operating system asks you to.

Practical note: Avoid driver-download portals, browser notifications claiming your driver is outdated, and unsolicited 'printer support' pop-ups.

When reinstalling helps

Reinstallation may help after a damaged driver, major operating-system update, incorrectly configured port, or failed previous install. It is not the first fix for paper jams, supply errors, physical print-quality defects, or printer-side hardware messages.

First verify the printer can operate independently or print a device-side report.
Remove only the affected printer/driver components you understand.
Install the current official package and test with one simple page.

Practical note: Document your working connection method before removing anything, especially on network printers.
