Printer Not Printing

Work from printer status to connection, queue, and software instead of changing everything at once.

Start at the printer, not the computer

If the printer screen shows an open cover, missing paper, jam, low or incompatible supply, maintenance request, or other alert, resolve that condition before reinstalling software.

Try an internal status page, copy, or device-side report if your printer supports one. A device-side page helps separate printer hardware problems from computer communication problems.

  1. Verify power and clear visible printer-screen messages.
  2. Confirm supported paper is loaded correctly.
  3. Check ink, toner, tanks, drums, or other supplies are installed and recognized.
  4. Confirm the intended connection is active.
  5. Send one simple test page rather than several documents.
Practical note: Repeatedly clicking Print can create a queue of failed jobs that makes troubleshooting harder.

Check the application and job

Sometimes the printer is healthy and the problem is limited to one document, one application, an unusual paper size, or an invalid print setting.

  1. Try printing a short plain-text or one-page document.
  2. Check the correct printer is selected.
  3. Use a common paper size and ordinary print-quality setting.
  4. If one application fails, test another before reinstalling the printer.
Practical note: A single damaged PDF or oversized image can fail while ordinary test pages still print normally.
Brand-specific steps may differ. Use the manual and official manufacturer support resources for your exact printer model. Do not install unknown remote-access tools or disclose passwords, verification codes, or payment information.
