Paper Jam Guide
Clear jammed media without forcing the paper path or damaging rollers and sensors.
Stop pulling before you know the paper path
Paper should normally be removed in the direction recommended by the printer manual. Pulling backward through rollers, tearing paper, or using sharp tools can leave scraps behind or damage sensors and feed components.
- Cancel the print job and follow the printer’s jam message.
- Power off and unplug only if the model’s safety instructions call for it before opening jam-access areas.
- Remove loose sheets from input and output trays.
- Open only the documented access doors and gently remove visible jammed paper with both hands.
- Check for torn scraps, labels, staples, paper clips, curled sheets, or overfilled trays.
- Close all access points fully and reload a smaller, neat stack of supported paper.
Practical note: If paper is wrapped around an internal roller, fused in a hot area, or unreachable without disassembly, stop and use manufacturer service guidance.
Prevent repeat jams
Moist, curled, torn, mixed-size, overloaded, or unsupported media can cause repeat feed problems. Worn pickup rollers or foreign objects can also contribute.
- Fan and align the paper stack without bending it.
- Set paper guides so they touch the stack without squeezing it.
- Match the paper size/type in the printer and print settings.
- Store paper flat and dry.
Practical note: If jams repeatedly occur at the same internal location with clean supported paper, a feed component or sensor may need model-specific service.
